Monday Re up #11: The Art of Storytelling

DavidChoe

This week I spent a lot of time at work digging through streaming mixtapes for something fresh. I ended up on the Mad Decent blog listening to The Heatwave on Kiss and instead I found some older Outkast track that seems to be very under hyped and under appreciated. Don’t worry I also have something new, but sorry nothing blue. Of course, its a Kanye West track. He doesn’t seem to be able to resist leaking a new song every week. Here is a very 80’s very auto tuned Robocop. The track listing for 808’s and Heartbreak is also out.

1. “Welcome to Heartbreak”
2. “Heartless” – 3:30
3. “Love Lockdown” – 4:31
4. “Robocop” – 3:53
5. “Anyway”
6. “Streetlights”
7. “Say You Will”
8. “Real Bad News”
9. “Amazing” (featuring Young Jeezy)
10. “Tell Everybody That You Know” (featuring Lil Wayne)
11. “Coldest Winter” – 2:48

Firekites save the day

Filed under: acoustic — Tags: — Alex @ 9:44 am

You might call me a wet blanket for posting some acoustic songs on Friday. You might even call me an asshole. I bet though that once you’ve heard the
Firekites you might reconsider your harsh words, shake my hand and buy me a beer.

Monday Re up #10: 100th post extravaganza

This week’s Monday Re up marks the 100th post in this blog’s history and as a result ya’ll are being treated to an extra large portion of songs to keep your toes tapping and fingers snapping throughout the week.

First of I came across this Lykke Li video of her performing Dance Dance Dance with none other than Bon Iver. Watch her shake her accessories about and flail around in the most memorizing of ways. The footage is shot in a kind of purposefully erratic way which for whatever reason ends up working wonderfully.

Also this week we’ve got the best Love Lockdown remix of the hundreds that surfaced from Kanye’s stem experiment and an old (but great) kick push remix that I’ve been listening to lately. Enjoy the week.

Kanye Calls Us Heartless

Filed under: Hip Hop — Tags: — Alex @ 9:30 am

I haven’t addressed this Kanye West situation yet. Mostly due to the astonishing proliferation of Love Lockdown and in part because I wasn’t sure how I felt about it. I’m still not sure, but this new single from the upcoming 808’s and Heartbreak has gotten me a little more comfortable with this auto tune direction Kanye seems to be heading down. It seems to me the meticulous workings of a man with a plan. He seems set on diversifying out of the straight hip hop genre, and so far it’s working. I guess?

Like good Canadian pilgrims, we’ve deferred the monday re-up till tuesday this week. Give thanks we didn’t skip it all together, okay? This week I’m bringing to attention some old favourites, being my two favourite tracks from Jay-Z’s 2001 Unplugged album.
