Richard Cheese Lounge Covers

The Cheese

Who is Richard Cheese? A fictional character? A real character? Mass hysteria? Yes and No, he’s a lounge singer from that city of cities, Las Vegas. Self proclaimed hardest working dick in show business, the man has taken a great lounge act and turned into a great lounge act people will listen to outside of a Vegas cocktail bar.

He even hosted a short lived Karaoke themed MTV show. Wait, MTV Karaoke show = Flop, American Idol = Global ratings sensation? If there’s a difference I can’t see it. Mr. Cheese and his band even played at Travis Barker’s (first) wedding.

It seems that he’s also made quite a name for himself pissing people off and has earned the nickname Dick in the minds of some individuals. Like this one, this one and this one. Apparently Richard Cheese has a clause in his contracts which specify absolutely no unauthorized video recordings of his performances and when this isn’t enforced he likes to spit on people and smash their cameras.

These tracks are from the album Lounge Against the Machine, I think there are others…whatever.

OCDJ Woopash!

OCDJ

OCDJ has an interesting take on using mixing video game sounding synths with gangster rap. This song in particular is also featured in a Blue Leader video (mortal kombat anyone?). The 2007 album is full of all sorts of goodies and onomatopoeia similar to this song Woopash! so if you like it, the answer is yes there is more.

Devin the Dude: One more shot of Patron

Filed under: Hip Hop — Tags: — Alex @ 9:29 pm

I’ve been meaning to post this track for an extremely long time. It’s a track by Texas rapper Devin the Dude. I remember when I first heard it at a friends place between beers and asking someone,

What is this song about?

What my friend told me, and is all too obvious upon second and third listens, is that it’s a song about getting a DUI. I love it. It’s not a complicated theme, but nonetheless it captures all the concerns and emotions one might have on such an excursion. Not that I know from experience. In general though, I just find it all too relaxing a song for anyone not to post it for ya’ll. Comment bitches! This blog runs on a pocketfull of dreams and feedback.

Girl Problems Mixtape

Blue Dog Wednesdays Regular and good friend of this blog DJ Girl Problems dropped his mixtape Big In 2k12 recently. He’s also behind all the killer nights HGHLY TGGBL has been hosting at the Fix every Friday. Since we were migrating the servers we didn’t get a chance to tell you about this sooner! And for that we are sorry.

Check it out.

The South’s got something to say “We’re Back”

The rumors of our demise have been greatly exaggerated. By that I mean, there was no demise, just a hap hazard migration of servers and inconvenient bout of sickness. Anyways, the blog is back up and running and guess who else is back? Outkast.
Big Boi said it himself.

“The South got something to say, and we gonna keep on talking,”

That’s right we can all expect three albums from Outkast in 2009. One as Oukast and two solo albums from Andre 3000 and Big Boi. Here’s and older but unappreciated track featuring collaboration between Andre 3000 and Norah Jones.

Felix Da Housecat is Ready 2 Wear

Filed under: Electronic — Tags: — Alex @ 10:00 am

So this cat just played at Club Opera on Sunday. Unfortunately Opera is one of those venues I refuse to go to even if they’re featuring an act I really like. Felix Da Housecat is one such act. Anyways, let’s hope he plays the SAT or something next time like he did last year. In the meantime, Ready 2 Wear is one my favourites.

Kanye West Features Kid Cudi? Yes He Can.

We feature Kid Cudi on his stop in Montreal and a month later Kanye West leaks a song from 808’s and Heartbreak featuring Kid Cudi? The only reasonable conclusion I can reach is…Kanye West reads this blog. Cheers K-West.

Aren’t you glad you read this blog and were ahead on the Kid Cudi vibe? We kind of liked Kid Cudi when he was a poorly kept Fool’s Gold secret, but we’re happy that Kanye is taking him for a ride into the mainstream. He’s earned it. Anyways, here’s the track called Anyway.

Monday Re up #12: Japanese Psuedo Celebrity Edition

Hate all you want on the man, Steve Aoki knows how to throw a party. That seems to be where most people have settled over the ongoing debate over his legitimacy. Throughout ridiculous tales of stolen laptops and hotel parties, it’s pretty easy to dismiss Steve as vapid celebrity. This publication, will officially stand behind Aoki in an effort not to take ourselves too seriously. I think Steve understands that. Anyways, here’s a remix of control by Metro Station he did not too long ago. Show up. Dance. Don’t hate.
