Bombay Bicycle Club Evening Morning Single + Video

Filed under: Rock, Video — Tags: — Alex @ 12:31 pm

bombay bicycle club

I’m just a little late on this new Bombay Bicycle Club single but too make it up I’ve got this gem of a video to accompany it. The song isn’t much of a departure from what you’ve known and hopefully liked about Bombay Bicycle Club in the past. I actually think that’s a good thing, there’s nothing wrong with a consistent and predictable indie rock band.

The video below is directed by Ben Newman who met the band while working for the BBC. This marks his music video directorial debut and I actually liked it quite a bit. A simple chase scene with some color changing socks and a panda costume, what else do you need?

Take a Look at the Whitest Boy Alive

whitest boy alive

I’ve been a Kings of Convenience fan for a number of years now (unfortunately they haven’t been in this city since 2005 and I missed them) but that is neither here nor there. I think the first song that actually got me into them was that Last Christmas Wham cover I posted a few weeks ago and I immediately noticed that they have all sorts of side projects going on.

Erlend Øye did a solo album in 2003 called Unrest and he’s instantly recognizable on a more than a few tracks on the Röyksopp album Melody A.M. I had heard about the Whitest Boy Alive a few times but I kept putting it off for some reason. I just scrobbled them with my last.fm player that my roommate just convinced me to download and I have to say, they are more than good. Great some might even say. By the way here is my last.fm profile page if you want to pry in on my personal listening habits at any hour of the day or night.

Can’t Hurry This Supremes Post

Filed under: Soul — Tags: — Alex @ 2:35 pm

supremes

I’ve been listening to a disproportionate amount of radio lately, and maybe this post is testament to how this little habit of mine has gone too far. I’ll try to limit myself to only when I forget to bring my iPod into the car. Anyways, its a classic song that I probably would not have thought to post if it weren’t for the radio, so it’s getting posted.

Pat Benatar: Hipsters from the Past

pat benatar

Isn’t she lovely here in the aqua green American Apparel precursor with jet black tights and a casual chic blazer? Dov Charney eat your heart out. We sometimes forget that you suck and luckily we’re not short of opportunities to be reminded that you do. Patty Benatar’s classic song Love is a battlefield is given new life and energy in DJ Bling’s remix album King of Rock. We posted about this a few months ago and ya’ll seemed to love it so here is some more goddamn songs for your asshole computer to play.

Monday Re up #17: From Chi Town to France

air rhymfest

What can I say about AIR that you don’t already know? Depends who you are of course. They’re a french band consisting of two people that’s made a name for themselves making whimsical pop rock and working with Sofia Coppola on film soundtracks like The Virgin Suicides and Marie Antoinette.

They’re latest album is called Pocket Symphony and this is a remix of their song Alpha Beta GaGa from the 2004 album Talkie Walkie featuring none other than Rhymefest. Who apparently has a twitter, who knew?

Something to Kleerup

Kleerup

So Lykke Li played Montreal last night at Club Soda. Although she was losing her voice toward the end, the show was great. She did a Lil’ Wayne cover (a milli) and of course the A Tribe Called Quest cover (Can I Kick It?) that she’s now well known for doing.

Andreas Kleerup is also from sweden and actually had Li do guest vocals for the song “until we bleed” from his self titled 2008 album. Tower of Trellick is the song that first drew me to the album and remains one of my favourites. Kleerup seems to favour having various swedish songstresses featured on his songs from Lykke Li and Titiyo to Lisa Millberg of The Concretes.

I present to you, a glass of ice tea and sangria from the patio of Frites Alors on St Lo circa summer 2008. Let this photo and this song remind you that the winter months will be over soon and the streets of Montreal will once again belong to whoever claims them. songs via bonafied

Oh and don’t forget, Lykke Li is today at Club Soda. See you there.

Erlend

This cover is admittedly yesterdays news to many people, but because it’s so good and the timing is right (post christmas) here it is. I hope nobody gave away your heart last christmas and if they did, pour yourself a drink and take solice in the fact that both Wham! and Erlend Øye feel your pain.

Monday Re up #16: Afro Samurai Edition

Filed under: Hip Hop, Monday Re-up — Tags: — Alex @ 1:00 pm

afro samurai

If you haven’t already heard, Afro Samurai is a manga turned animated mini-series turned full length movie featuring the trials and tribulations of a black samurai. I just saw the movie this weekend and I can’t recommend it enough. The animation is brilliant and the voice acting by Samuel L. Jackson adds some good clean fun. The icing on the cake though is the musical score which is done entirely by the one and only RZA. I immediately got the soundtrack and as you would expect here are some of my personal favorites along with the movie trailer.
