Mobius Band Loves You

As you may have guessed, after being thoroughly impressed by Mobius Band last weekend at their show with Cut Copy, they’re getting a post to call their own. As if they even needed to impress me more, I came upon an album of covers they did called Love Will Reign Supreme. In it they masterfully cover and re interpret songs like “True love will find you in the end” by Daniel Johnston and “Digital Love” by Daft Punk. Like good 21st century rockers, they’ve made that album available for download for free.

I never really appreciated their “hit” friends like these until I saw them play it live and after listening to both albums I could find, Heaven and The Loving Sounds of Static, I was won over. This is me giving them a shot at doing the same for you.

Cut Copy & Mobius Band @ Cabaret Just for Laughs May 10th, 08

With or without Black Kids, I knew that Cut Copy and Mobius Band would be a great show. What I wasn’t counting on was Mobius Band being as good as they were. They’re live show was unlike anything I’ve ever seen before; it struck me as definitively original and inventive. Watch out for these kids in the future, they are very worth seeing live. Cut Copy was great too, but my expectations were already high so I wasn’t surprised or disappointed. I took some pictures, check them out.

On Nu Ravers anniversary pictures

It’s been more than a few days but hold on, i made it worth your wait. Nu Ravers on the Block First year anniversary party pictures and comments are here. For me the surprise stand out act was the one act that i had never heard of and neglected to investigate prior to the show. Hearts Revolution consists of a dude named Ben mixing, on keys and doing backup vocals and a chick named Lo doing the main vocals.

Any act that takes a somewhat a pseudo live approach to a genre which predominantly features DJs mixing and not much else, is taking somewhat of a risk. – Think Chromeo – think Crystal Castles – think Pase Rock – Hearts Revolution seriously pulled it off. Unfortunately Lo’s mic was way too long to be able to hear the vocals properly. In fact, when they first started playing it wasn’t working at all and the music had to stop for about 5 mins; needles to say there were alot of confused drunk people shouting unhelpful suggestions.

Look out for these guys in the future, they show alot of potential.

Nu Ravers did their thing and delivered their consistent danceable tunes without too many surprises. Things didn’t get too crazy until after their set, when Felix Cartal from Vancouver started spinning and the Nu Ravers loosened up.

Here’s a Happy Birthday song for Nu Ravers from the Club:

I cropped some ugly people out of this picture, i felt kind of bad while i was doing it but now i’m glad i did.
Needless to say, people were crunking.
So crunking, in fact, that shortly after as this picture was taken this dude poured vodka in a chicks eye; her response? Fall on the floor and yell “Fuck my eye!”

Many of the details surrounding this photo remain unclear.
And we’d like to keep it that way.

If anyone thinks of a snarky comment for this one then email me.
